Power in the Pines Information
The 2023 Power in the Pines Air & Space Open House will be hosted at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst from Saturday to Sunday, 20-21 May 2023.
The general public will have installation access 20-21 May, gates open at 0900.
The USAF F-16 Viper Demonstration will headline the event along with other performers.
This event is free and open to the public.

  • F-16 Viper Demo Team

    The F-16C Falcon Block 50 is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft and the primary weapons system for the 20th Fighter Wing.     Rick Volker and the Sukhoi SU-26M

    Rick Volker is an International Aerobatic Club pilot. He’s rated in the unlimited category with a surface waiver. This gives him special permissions and extended privileges when performing at air shows. Visit here for a promo video!

    "That's All Brother"

    Flying and static performer. "That's All Brother" is a Douglas C-47 Skytrain aircraft that led the formation of 800 others from which approximately 13,000 U.S. paratroopers jumped on D-Day, June 6, 1944, the beginning of the liberation of France in the last two years of World War II.

    "Helldiver"

    Flying and static performer. The Curtiss SB2C Helldiver is a dive bomber developed by Curtiss-Wright during World War II, as a carrier-based bomber with the United States Navy (USN), in Pacific theaters.

    B-25 "Panchito"

    Flying and static performer. A force of sixteen B-25 medium size bombers lifted the hopes of a wounded America as pilot LT. Col. Jimmy Doolittle led his squadron on a strike against Japan in the months following Pearl Harbor. "Panchito" served with the 396th Bomb Squadron, 41st Bomb Group, 7th Air Force on Okinawa during summer 1945. 

    USCG MH-65 Dolphin

    The Eurocopter MH-65 Dolphin is a twin-engine helicopter operated by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) for medevac-capable search and rescue (SAR) and armed Airborne Use of Force missions.

    F-15C

    The F-15 Eagle is an all-weather, extremely maneuverable, tactical fighter designed to permit the Air Force to gain and maintain air supremacy over the battlefield. It can penetrate enemy defense and outperform and outfight any current enemy aircraft. The F-15 has electronic systems and weaponry to detect, acquire, track and attack enemy aircraft while operating in friendly or enemy-controlled airspace. The weapons and flight control systems are designed so one person can safely and effectively perform air-to-air combat.

    CH-53E Super Stallion 

    HMH-772 is a United States Marine Corps helicopter squadron consisting of CH-53E Super Stallion transport helicopters. The mission of HMH-772 is to provide the Active Component a Combat Ready Force to augment and reinforce regular forces in Major Regional Contingency (MRC) and to provide relief to these forces during times of high tempo operations.

    AH-1Z Cobra

    Developed from the Huey transport helicopter, the Cobra was the first purpose-built helicopter gunship to enter military service. It was the mainstay of U.S. Army attack aviation from its combat debut in South Vietnam during 1967 until replaced by the AH-64 Apache in the 1980s and '90s. They are part of HMLA-773 Detachment B which supports the Marine Air Ground Task Force Commander by providing offensive air support, utility support, armed escort, and airborne supporting arms coordination during expeditionary, joint, or combined operations.

    UH-1Y Venom

    After entering service in 2008, the UH-1Y replaced the USMC's aging fleet of UH-1N Twin Huey light utility helicopters. They are part of HMLA-773 Detachment B which supports the Marine Air Ground Task Force Commander by providing offensive air support, utility support, armed escort, and airborne supporting arms coordination during expeditionary, joint, or combined operations.

    UH-60M Black Hawk

    The UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter is the U.S. Army's primary medium-lift utility transport and air assault aircraft. It is a twin-engine, medium-lift utility helicopter, equipped with a single 4-bladed rotor and a single 4-bladed tail rotor.

    C-17 Globemaster III

    McGuire’s C-17s play a significant role in the transport of air cargo and personnel around the world.  Our crews were pivotal in Operation Allies Refuge in August 2021 where over 124,000 people were evacuated to various destinations around the world, including here at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, following the Taliban's takeover of the country. The C-17's large payload capacity and ability to operate on short runways made it an ideal choice for this mission.

    KC-135 Stratotanker

    141 ARS is part of the New Jersey ANG and operates the KC-135 to provide aerial refueling capability for the United States and her allies. The nozzle of the boom is interchangeable to provide boom or drogue refueling depending on mission requirements.  The KC-135 is the most numerous tanker in the US fleet and capable of transporting litter and ambulatory patients using patient support pallets during aeromedical evacuations.

    KC-46 Pegasus

    The Joint Base’s newest edition, the KC-46A tanker is approved by the U.S. Air Force for global deployments, including combat operations. With more in service globally than any tanker except the KC-135, the KC-46A is delivering fuel, data and multi-mission capability for the U.S. and allies around the globe.

    KC-10 Extender

    A military version of the three-engine DC-10 airliner, the KC-10 incorporates military-specific equipment for its primary roles of boom and drogue aerial refueling and transport. The KC-10 was used extensively for combat operations and was instrumental in the early stages of support for Ukraine and the evacuation efforts of Afghanistan.  The aircraft is currently in divestment and expected to be phased out of service by the end of 2024.

    Marines:

    CH-53E Super Stallion

    Army:

    UH-60M Black Hawk

    LUH-72

    The UH-72 Lakota is a light helicopter that operates worldwide in permissive environments to meet Homeland Defense and Security, general support, reconnaissance, command and control operations, search and rescue, and training requirements.

    C-12 Huron

    Primarily used by the US Air Force, Navy, Army, and Marine Corps for several functions, including range clearance, embassy support, medical evacuation, VIP transport, passenger and light cargo transport. DET 19 OSA-A and the 2-228th Theater Fixed Wing Battalion are two C-12 units located at McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. The Battalion Higher Headquarters Company supports three flight companies spread across the east coast, and Alpha Company that moves cargo and passengers daily via MILAIR flights stateside through the Army Operational Support Airlift Agency, and abroad through rotational deployments to the Middle East.

    AH-64 Apache

    The AH-64 Apache is the Army's heavy division/corps attack helicopter. It is used to conduct rear, close, and shaping missions including deep precision strikes against relocatable targets, and provides armed reconnaissance when required in day, night, obscured battlefield and adverse weather conditions.

    Navy:

    C-130T Hercules

    The legacy C/KC-130T Hercules is a medium-sized multi-role transport aircraft supporting U.S. Navy operations world-wide. Naval Reserve C/KC-130T aircraft fulfill the Navy Unique Fleet Essential Airlift mission to provide the last logistic mile in support operations to forward deployed Naval Forces. VR-64 is one of 15 Navy VR squadrons and one of five C-130T's Hercules units comprised of active-duty and reserve members that provides responsive logistics support to the fleet and humanitarian efforts

    Air Force:

    MQ-9 Reaper

    The General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) capable of remotely controlled or autonomous flight operations, developed by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems primarily for the United States Air Force.

    T-1 Jayhawk

    The 48th FTS is responsible for training pilots in the T-1A Jayhawk. The T-1A is a medium-range, twin-engine jet trainer used in the advanced phase of specialized undergraduate pilot training for students selected to fly airlift or tanker aircraft. It is also used to support navigator training for the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and international services.

    T-38 Talon

    The T-38 Talon is a twin-engine, high-altitude, supersonic jet trainer used in a variety of roles because of its design, economy of operations, ease of maintenance, high performance, and exceptional safety record. These T-38s are presented from the 7 FTS at Langley and the 80 FTW at Sheppard.

    F-16 Fighting Falcon

    The F-16s of the 119th FS provide armed air defense of the President and many significant national events (political conventions, UN General Assembly, etc), while also being a worldwide-deployment Combat Air Forces squadron to fulfill Combatant Commander needs.

    Civilian:

    C-172 Skyhawk

    The Cessna 172 Skyhawk is an American four-seat, single-engine, high wing, fixed-wing aircraft made by the Cessna Aircraft Company. First flown in 1955, more 172s have been built than any other aircraft. It was developed from the 1948 Cessna 170 but with tricycle landing gear rather than conventional landing gear.

    C-182 Skylane

    The Cessna 182 Skylane is a four-seat, single-engine, high wing aircraft that boasts greater horsepower and range than earlier Cessna models.  The aircraft is one of many used for a variety of missions by the official auxiliary of the Air Force, the Civil Air Patrol, such as search and rescue and humanitarian efforts.

    DC-3

    Yukon Sourdough, from the Ens. Dean R. Van Kirk Aviation Heritage Museum, was originally built in 1942 and was previously registered as CF-OVW. The DC-3’s livery is that of Canadian Air North based in Whitehorse, Yukon.  DC-3s were used to develop the C-47 for military use during WWII.

    L-19/O-1  

    The Cessna L-19 Bird Dog was produced to fulfill the U.S. Army's need for an aircraft that could perform liaison and observation duties as well as adjust artillery fire. They requested it to be constructed of all metal, as the fabric-covered liaison aircraft used during World War II had short service lives.

    PA-28

    The Piper Archer is one of the PA-28 family of aircraft, the others being the Cherokee, Warrior, and Arrow. All of them are fairly similar in being low-wing, all-metal, single-engine aircraft with the tricycle landing gear. They are primarily designed for training and private flying.

    Mooney M20J

    The M20J is a 4 place, all-metal, low wing, high performance, single-engine airplane, with retractable landing gear.
