87th Air Base Wing welcomes new Vice Commander

87th Air Base Wing leads the way in COVID-19 response
July 22, 2020 - Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, essential personnel of Joint Base MDL have been working around the clock in supporting the fight against it. From providing facemasks to medical professionals and first responders in New York City to becoming a designated quarantine location for the Northeast, Joint Base MDL has been one of the lead players in the contribution of providing necessary goods and services.

Aug. 13, 2020 - F-35A Lightning II student pilots from the 58th Fighter Squadron traveled to Fort Worth, Texas, to train on an advanced F-35A virtual simulator July 21-24.

Aug. 13, 2020 - The Department of the Air Force’s X-37B spaceplane, a reusable, multi-purpose, system that operates without an onboard crew, won the prestigious Robert J. Collier Trophy Aug. 13 for advancing technology that pushes “the boundaries of flight and space exploration.”

Aug. 10, 2020 - Joint Base McGuire–Dix–Lakehurst welcomed the new Army Support Activity, Fort Dix Commander and Joint Base MDL Deputy Commander, U.S. Army Col. Jon Brierton on July 23. ASA Fort Dix is responsible for providing training opportunities to build readiness throughout the Joint Force. Though new to his position, Brierton is no stranger to the installation. The Pennsylvania native began his career on Fort Dix when he attended Basic Combat Training in 1990. Brierton originally enlisted as an 88N, or Traffic Management Coordinator, and later commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1993 after obtaining his degree in manufacturing from the California University of Pennsylvania.

Meet the new 87th Mission Support Group Commander

Aug. 3, 2020 - The 87th Mission Support Group recently welcomed its new commander, U.S. Air Force Col. Janette D. Ketchum, to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. Ketchum now leads a team of more than 3,100 personnel and is responsible for security forces, force support, communications, contracting and logistics readiness squadrons supporting 52,000 personnel across the DoD’s sole tri-service installation.

July 30, 2020 - “I enlisted in the Army Reserve after college because I wanted to serve; however, I was not sold on the military as a career at that point. The Army offered me the opportunity to work on helicopters part-time and that was an easy sell,” said Colonel Charles “Scott” Hughes. Nearly 22 years later, Colonel Hughes is now the commander of the 87th Medical Group at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst after taking command June 25, 2020.

Race Steinfort in an unprecedented virtual ceremony in this environment of social distancing, and in accordance with CDC, DoD and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., guidelines.
