As the Defense Department’s only tri-service installation, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL) is home to five wings spanning 42,000 acres. JB MDL’s host wing, the 87th Air Base Wing, supports 88 mission partners by providing unrivaled installation support to all mission commanders and sustaining mission-ready expeditionary service members to our combatant commanders.

JB MDL is the premier East Coast installation that serves as a vital hub for global reach and power. Located in central New Jersey the installation provides a wide range of capabilities, including airlift, air refueling, combat airpower, global reach and responsiveness, and mission support. With a rich history that dates back to the early 20th century, JB MDL continues to play a critical role in supporting the nation's defense and security.
JB MDL was established in 2009 as a result of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process, which combined the former McGuire Air Force Base, Fort Dix Army Base, and Lakehurst Naval Air Station. Today, JB MDL is the only tri-service joint base in the Department of Defense, and it is one of the largest military installations in the country, with more than 42,000 active-duty service members, civilians, and family members.
In addition to its military mission, JB MDL is also an important economic engine for the region. The installation generates more than $6.9 billion in economic activity each year and supports more than 60,000 jobs in the local community. JB MDL is committed to being a good neighbor and partner, and it works closely with local and state officials to support the needs of the community.
