A 305th Air Mobility Wing NCO has been selected to represent the wing and Air Mobility Command for an Air Force-level award.

Tech. Sgt. Ryan Murray, 305th Operational Support Squadron Aircrew Flight Equipment quality assurance NCO in charge, was recently chosen above his peers across AMC to compete for the 2016 Outstanding USAF Aircrew Flight Equipment NCO of the Year Award.

“I’m still kind of shocked. I know there are a lot of other people who could have been selected instead of me” said Murray, who is making his premiere at Air Force-level awards. “I’m humbled.”

Murray’s day to day duties include ensuring that the safety equipment aircrew use and rely on in the event of an emergency is functional and ready at a moment’s notice. From parachutes and oxygen masks, to life rafts which support 46 people, Murray is directly responsible for their inspection.

“AFE is an aircrew’s last resort,” said Murray. “We would love for them never to have to use our safety equipment because if they do, something has gone wrong.”

However, Murray’s job isn’t limited to handling and inspecting the equipment, his responsibilities also include AFE training for aircrews across the Joint Base.

“I like to help out as much as I can because I truly care about the development of my Airmen,” said Murray. “I really enjoy being an instructor and I care about the mission.”

Working with his team throughout the year, Murray said he is thankful for their cooperation and support.

“Tech. Sgt. Murray is an expert in his field and he works diligently to pass on this expertise to the members of our flight,” said Capt. Stefanie Culp, 305th OSS AFE flight commander. “It’s no surprise to those who know him that he would be the AMC nominee.”
