JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST PUBLIC AFFAIRS -- On a crisp April morning, Captain Khan, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst deputy commander and Naval Support Activity Lakehurst commander, Honorary Commander (HC) Gino Sciorilli, NSA Lakehurst Command Master Chief Joseph, and NSA personnel gathered together to recognize NSA Lakehurst for winning the coveted Retention Excellence Award for 2017.
“This was a team effort with the command’s Career Counselors, Department/Division Career Counselors, the Chiefs Mess and all Sailors,” said Senior Chief Petty Officer Roseanne Corey, NSA Lakehurst career counselor. I am very happy that Petty Officer Wendell is present to see his hard work come to fruition and I wish Chief Patton, the prior Career Counselor, were here.”
“We recruit Sailors but we retain families and having the support of the local community plays a key part in retaining Sailors," said Khan.
HC and Chairman of the Ocean County Military Support Committee, Gino Sciorilli, provided the Sailors of NSA Lakehurst with his own insight.
“The community is proud of the hard work you do each day,” said Sciorilli. “Being part of this ceremony has been an honor and each of you should be honored to win this award.”
Of the 456 commands that fall under Commander Navy Installation Command (CNIC), only 64 earned the Retention Excellence Award for 2017 which places NSA Lakehurst in the top 14 percent of all CNIC commands. Additionally, NSA Lakehurst had 100 percent retention rate for all first-term Sailors. In his message, Vice Admiral Jackson, Commander Navy Installation Command had the following to say,
“Your dedication and commitment to the career programs not only exemplify your superb performance, but also attest to your concern for the professional needs of our Sailors,” said Vice Admiral Mary Jackson, NIC commander. “Every member of your command can be justifiably proud of their achievements. Thank you for the great work and commitment.”
NSA Lakehurst is authorized to fly the Retention Award Pennant until the 2018 winners are announced.
