JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. --A new Continuous Process Improvement classroom here was recently dedicated to Joint Base MDL and all mission partners.
The dedication ceremony was presided over by U.S. Air Force Col. Neil Richardson, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and 87th Air Base Wing commander, who has made innovation a priority across the joint base.
The room has an interactive projection system and white board walls so students and teams can use CPI tools to facilitate problem solving and innovative solutions. The most recent Green Belt Class consisted of personnel from the 87th ABW, 305th Air Mobility Wing, 621st Contingency Response Wing and several other mission partners.
CPI training consists of a one-day Yellow Belt Class which provides the baseline education for process improvement including the 8-step Practical Problem Solving Method, 7 Types of Waste, Principles of Lean and Lean Tools. Once students complete this course they are eligible for the three-day Green Belt Class that focuses on facilitation and lends itself to certification.
Currently, the Air Force is seeking innovative ways to conduct operations smarter and more efficiently. Since the inception of the Air Force in 1947, our force has drawn down by one third and may not increase in the coming years. During the event, Richardson explained the importance of process improvement stating “the necessity for innovation” in today’s Air Force.
Richardson closed the ceremony by addressing the class, “I encourage and challenge you to take the information you learn through CPI back to your work centers and employ more efficient ways of doing business.”
