USAF Surgeon General visits Joint Base MDL

Lt. Gen. Dorothy Hogg, U.S. Air Force Surgeon General, and Chief Master Sgt. G. Steve Cum, Chief of the Medical Enlisted Force, host an all call for the 87th Medical Group during a tour at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., Nov. 21, 2019. During the all call, medical staff had an opportunity to address questions or concerns directed toward military medicine and the future of programs, patient care and training. Hogg spoke of the importance to not only think outside of the box, but to think without the box and challenge the boundaries and guidelines provided to medical professionals. U.S. Air Force Medical Service leadership watch a simulated medical emergency in a simulated hostile environment during a tour at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., Nov. 21, 2019. Lt. Gen. Dorothy Hogg, U.S. Air Force Surgeon General, and Chief Master Sgt. G. Steve Cum, Chief of the Medical Enlisted Force, toured the 87th Medical Group to grasp a better understanding of how an Air Force run medical facility provides care to all five sister services within the only tri-service installation. Lt. Gen. Dorothy Hogg, U.S. Air Force Surgeon General, laughs with members from the 87th Medical Group during a tour at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., Nov. 21, 2019. Hogg toured different units within the MDG and learned of innovations and new systems the team has implemented to provide quality patient care. A new program the MDG is implementing is Sick Call; a system for Active Duty military members to receive immediate care on non-emergent illnesses in an effort to alleviate appointment loads and wait times for care.
