Service member spotlight: honorable to serve Published May 30, 2013 By Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Public Affairs JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- Petty Officer 1st Class Seth Hartmann, Atlantic Strike Team response supervisor, is the joint base's featured service member of the week. Hartmann hails from Riverton, N.J. Q: Why did you join the military? A: I originally saw the Coast Guard on the show Baywatch, and it looked like an interesting job. Q: What is your job and what is its impact on the mission? A: As a response supervisor, I stand ready to deploy in a moment's notice to hazardous material and pollution response incidents throughout the nation. Q: Do you have any past or current family members in military? A: My stepfather served in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War and actually trained on what was formerly Fort Dix as part of the group known as the "Proud Rifles." Q: Who most inspires you? A: Bono from U2 inspires me because he is a true humanitarian and the lead singer of the best band in the world. Q: What is one thing you'd like your fellow service members to take away or understand about the military? A: This is probably the most secure job to have in the U.S. at the moment and it is very honorable to serve.
