Service member spotlight: pride and honor Published May 16, 2013 By Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Public Affairs JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- Petty Officer 2nd Class David Williams, 87th Security Forces Squadron master at arms, is the joint base's featured service member of the week. Williams hails from Long Island, N.Y. Q: Why did you join the military? A: I joined the military to get an overall great experience by traveling and seeing other cultures. Q: What is your job and what is its impact on the mission? A: My job is to maintain base safety and enforce rules and regulations. I take pride in providing a security presence for military assets and personnel. Q: Do you have any past or current family members in military? A: None, I am the first. Q: Who most inspires you? A: My grandfather inspires me a lot. Q: What is one thing you'd like your fellow service members to take away or understand about the military? A: I would like them to be aware of the many benefits the military has to offer. The pride and honor I feel when a civilian shakes my hand and says "thank you for serving our country," for instance. It is one of the best feelings in the world.
