Joint Base to issue Gold Star IDs

Base authorities will begin issuing Gold Star installation access cards to eligible family members of fallen service members May 1, 2013, here.

Family members who are eligible to receive the ID are parents, siblings, stepsiblings, stepparents and grandparents of fallen service members.

The goal of the program is to make services more available to those family members who are not considered dependants and qualify for military identification. The card will allow the survivors unescorted access to better obtain support and services and allow them to feel a part of the military family.

Eligible survivors will fill out an application and be escorted on base to receive a photo ID. Until now, survivors were issued a Defense Biometric Identification System photo identification card that was only accepted at the joint base. The new identification will be accepted here and at all Army installations and will expire after two years.

Survivor Outreach Services is an Army program but serves survivors from all branches of the military for as long as the family chooses. Many come to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst to participate in SOS activities and remain connected to the military.
