The Army Materiel Command, Logistics Readiness Center here is using a new Water Dispersible Chemical Agent Resistant Coating in their vehicle painting operation.

The LRC works with all aspects of paint operations including cleaning, surface preparation, priming and top-coating.

"The new CARC produces less volatile organic compounds, less hazardous air pollutants and is much healthier for our employees," said Alva Calvin, LRC safety officer.
CARC paint was developed years ago to help soldiers safely camouflage their tactical equipment from the enemy by visually blending into the surroundings by using color and infrared reflectivity. The paint was also designed to be resistant to chemical warfare agents.

"This newer paint is easier to apply and easier to clean up," said Phil Loatman, LRC vehicle maintenance supervisor. "It's a win-win, the finish lasts longer and less paint is needed per vehicle."

The paint operation supports many local units. They have the capability to apply many products to meet a diverse customer base.

The LRC Paint Shop boasts a large capacity drive-through media blast booth, sanding booth and paint booth with the ability to bake on finishes.

"We support all components of the military and have the capability to paint tactical and commercial equipment for units on the joint base and in the area," said Pete Conboy, LRC Supply and Maintenance Division chief. "We can paint almost anything and welcome any challenge.

Painting is just one aspect of the LRC mission. They provide maintenance support to Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard units.

LRC Vehicle Maintenance, Weapons and Electronics/Communications sections all received a top rating of "Best Practice" during a comprehensive five-day evaluation conducted by Army Material Command's Quality Surveillance Division. Additionally, the Supply and Maintenance Division was recently recognized for its support to units deployed to the region as part of the Hurricane-Sandy relief mission.

"If your unit needs logistical or maintenance support, we are your one-stop shop" said Conboy.
