The 305th Air Mobility Wing evacuated its C-17 Globemaster IIIs and KC-10 Extenders from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst today in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy's arrival to the area.

The C-17s were sent to Joint Base Charleston, S.C., and MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. The KC-10 Extenders are evacuating to Grand Forks AFB, N.D.

The base's emergency planners are implementing procedures to ensure the security of military assets and the safety of service members and civilian employees assigned here. Aircraft evacuation is a standard procedure in expectation of severe weather.

The 305th AMW extends America's global reach by generating, mobilizing and deploying its KC-10 and C-17 aircraft to conduct strategic airlift and air refueling missions worldwide. Additionally, the Wing operates two of America's largest strategic aerial ports supporting the delivery of cargo to combatant commanders abroad.

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is actively preparing for the possible impact of Hurricane Sandy. Latest information and photos regarding the joint base's efforts to prepare for Hurricane Sandy are posted at www.jointbasemdl.af.mil.
