'Big Apple' goes blue for Air Force week Published Aug. 10, 2012 By 514th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- New York has more than 32,000 natives serving in the Air Force today with 1,500 of them serving overseas. Air Force Week New York is a chance to honor hometown heroes from all over the United States. Besides aerial demonstrations from the Thunderbirds and other acts, Air Force Week will include Air Force displays such as a military working dog demonstration, the Air Force Academy Falconer and various science and technology programs. Several Air Force bands will perform throughout the event, which runs from Aug. 19 through 21. Many of the Airmen who are participating in the event are active and reserve component Airmen from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. Additionally, the following events are open all JB MDL Airmen: Aug. 19 New York Red Bulls Soccer Game Time: 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Location: Red Bulls Arena, Hamilton, N.J. Uniform: Short Sleeve Blues Event is open to all Airmen Aug. 20 Air Force Static Displays Time: Noon to 7 p.m. Location: Pier 86, Intrepid Museum, New York City Uniform: Short Sleeve Blues Event is open to all Airmen Concert Time: Noon to 7 p.m. Location: Brooklyn War Memorial, Cadman Plaza Park, Brooklyn, N.Y. Uniform: Short Sleeve Blues Event is open to all Airmen Aug. 21 Brooklyn Cyclones Baseball Game Time: 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Location: Brooklyn, N.Y. Uniform: Short Sleeve Blues Event is open to all Airmen Transportation will be provided to New York City and back. Airmen living in or around New York City are encouraged to attend and join the fun. Additionally, attendance at events must be pre-coordinated through your chain of command.
