99th RSC wins top Army Reserve honors in Army Communities of Excellence competition

JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. --  The 99th Regional Support Command has been named the overall Army Reserve winner in the 2012 Army Communities of Excellence competition.

This win follows a second-place finish for the 99th RSC in its first year of ACOE competition in 2011.

"This was due to the fantastic work and commitment to serve soldiers and families by every member of our team," said Dr. Mikey Kloster, 99th RSC chief of staff.

The 99th RSC provides base-operations support to all Army Reserve soldiers, civilians, families, units, facilities and equipment for the entire northeast region of the Army Reserve, including the states of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire and the District of Columbia.

The 99 RSC manages human resources, logistics, finance, facilities, equipment maintenance, information technology and those well-being functions typically provided by Army installations. The command further exercises command and control of five Army Reserve bands stationed throughout the 13-state region.

"I want to extend a special 'thank you' to the (99th RSC) ACOE team, writers and champions, who put together the award-winning packet," Kloster added.

The ACOE Program was created in 1988 to promote and recognize effective management systems and overall performance improvement within the Army. This program ties in well with the Army's commitment to continuous process improvement through the Lean Six Sigma program.

The ACOE program uses the Criteria for Performance Excellence from the Baldrige National Quality Program as a guideline for assessing organizational performance.

The main focus areas of the Baldrige program are to help organizations achieve best-in-class levels of performance; identify and share best management practices, principles and strategies; and to identify and recognize role-model organizations.

With its first-place win, the 99th RSC will serve as a role-model organization for its fellow Army Reserve commands.

"I'm very proud of each of you and proud to be part of such a winning team," Kloster concluded.

Maj. Gen. William D. Razz Waff, commanding general of the 99th RSC, and members of the 99th RSC ACOE team are scheduled to attend an award ceremony at the Pentagon in May.
