Joint Base emergency responders halt blaze

JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst's Fire and Emergency Services successfully contained 100 percent of the range fire as of 6 p.m. April 9.

The fire started in training ranges 13 and 14 and began moving easterly into areas where previous controlled burns had been conducted. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Emergency responders began their fire-fighting efforts at 9:30 a.m. The JB MDL fire department continued to monitor the area throughout the week until the fire was completely extinguished.

An estimated that more than 300 acres of wooded area have burned since the fire started. No injuries or structural damages have been reported. Call the JB MDL Public Affairs Office for more information.
