87th CES takes high honors in AMC awards

Air Mobility Command officials recently announced the AMC Civil Engineer Annual Award winners for 2011.

Every fiscal year, each civil engineer squadron is afforded the opportunity to compete within their major command for individual, flight and unit awards.

"The 87th Civil Engineer Squadron submitted 18 award packages this year; we were fortunate to capture recognition on six of the submissions," said Chief Master Sgt. David Daniel, 87th CES Chief Enlisted Manager."

The Harry P. Rietman Award for senior civilian manager was awarded to Chris Archer, 87th Civil Engineer Squadron deputy base civil engineer.

Archer won the Harry P. Rietman Award for his strategic planning and execution of construction, renovation and execution of facility projects. He specifically targeted projects focused on expanding the joint base mission and projects geared toward energy reduction and savings. Archer's attention to detail aided in Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst's preparing for Hurricane Irene; overseeing $50 million in runway improvements; renovating of two training facilities; and executing $3.4 million in upgrades for the facilities.

Senior Airman Daniel Franco, 87th CES explosive ordnance disposal journeyman, was awarded the Major General Eugene A. Lupia Award as the best military technician Airman.

Franco, is recognized for is his 182-day deployment in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. This warrior deployed to Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan where he executed 78 combat missions, rendered safe 33 improvised explosive devises, conducted 21 post-blast analysis' and operated an M240B machine gun to repel 45 insurgents during a six-day gun battle contributing to 16 enemy killed in action.

Franco assisted in the life-saving medical evacuation of 14 coalition forces servicemembers utilizing his Combat Lifesaver Training.

The 87th CES was also named runner-up for the following awards:

Brigadier General Michael A. McAuliffe Award for housing excellence

Major General Robert C. Thompson Award for resources flight

Balchen/Post Award for snow and ice operations

Daniel was also recognized as runner-up for the Major General Joseph A. Ahearn Enlisted Leadership Award.
