2011 Veterans Day Volunteer Events

Veterans Day is a few short weeks away and volunteer opportunities are available for those looking to participate and share their story. Contact the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Community Relations Officer-in-Charge 2nd Lt. David J. Murphy at 754-2008 or david.murphy.35@us.af.mil to volunteer or for more information. Events still needing volunteers are:

Belleville Township Veterans Day Parade
Where: Mill St. and Union Ave., Belleville, N.J.
Who: Servicemembers who would like to march in the parade.
When: 2 to 3 p.m. Nov. 6

William Davis Middle School Veterans Day Event
Where: Vienna Ave. and Harding Way, Mays Landing, N.J.
Who: Servicemembers to speak to 8th graders about military service
When: 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 8

George L. Hess Elem. School Vets Awareness Ceremony
Where: 700 Babcock Rd., Mays Landing, N.J.
Who: Servicemembers to talk to elementary-school children.
When: 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 9

Shongum School Veterans Day Event
Where: 9 Arrow Pl., Randolph, N.J.
Who: Servicemembers to speak to students in small groups and one-on-one about the military
When: 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 9

Shaner Primary School Veterans Day Recognition Ceremony
Where: 15 E. Broad St., Hopewell, N.J.
Who: Servicemembers to speak to children in kindergarten and 1st grade
