The 2nd Battle Command Training Brigade, 75th Battle Command Training Division held its 2nd annual Best Warrior Competition at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst March 5 through 7.

The Best Warrior Competition is a test of the Soldiers' military knowledge, skills, and level of physical fitness.

Soldiers in the rank of private through specialist compete in the Soldier category and sergeant through sergeant first class compete in the noncommissioned officer category to determine the top enlisted Soldiers in both the junior enlisted force and within the NCO Corps.

"This competition is all about being Army Strong," said Command Sgt. Major Darrin Wiser, 2nd Bde, 75 Div. "It is about having the guts to step forward when others wouldn't and having the heart to Soldier on when others couldn't."

The "Lightning" Brigade Soldiers competed in a variety of events ranging from land navigation, weapons qualification, Army Physical Fitness test, Army Warrior Tasks, 10k road march, personal appearance board, drill and ceremony, written exam and a mystery event. Soldiers competed against each other for accuracy and speed as many of the events were timed.

Spc. Kyle Roman received top honors in the Soldier category while Sgt. Efrain Gil won in the noncommissioned officer category.

"This was a great competition," said Roman. "It challenged us both mentally and physically. It was two straight days of exhausting work, but in the end, it was completely worth it."

Even though only a handful of Soldiers competed, Wiser is proud of the effort given by some of the top performers in the unit.

"It was great to see these Soldiers challenging themselves and encouraging each other through every event," said Wiser. "They all gave 110 percent and never quit. I could not be any more proud of them for doing just that."
