Naval Support Activity-Lakehurst at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst recently announced that Fire Controlman First Class (Surface Warfare) Brandi Jasso was chosen as Sailor of the Year.

As the command career counselor, Jasso serves as the command's principal advisor on policies and regulations related to Navy career planning and provides primary technical assistance supporting other members of the command's career development team.

She is the leading petty officer for the administration department which is responsible for all pay, personnel matters, correspondence and identification card issuance. Jasso is responsible for six personnel who provide first-rate customer service while tracking more than 2,000 correspondences with 100 percent accountability.

Jasso serves as the president of the Cultural Diversity Committee, leading the organization and execution of the Women's and Asian Pacific History month luncheons.

"Petty Officer Jasso is an absolute star Sailor," said Navy Capt. Andrew Butterfield, 87th Mission Support Group deputy commander and Naval Support Activity-Lakehurst commanding officer. "She has quite simply 'raised the bar' here. Her intense attention to detail and unwavering commitment to mission, established new standards of professional and military achievement for all enlisted Sailors of NSA-Lakehurst to strive for and achieve."

Her dedication to community service, on and off-duty, include Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Ocean and Monmouth Counties Food Banks, Grandmother's Cupboard, the Holiday Food Basket Program and the local Parent Teachers Association.

Jasso has been nominated by NSA-Lakehurst as the Vice Chief of Naval Operations, Naval Shore Activities Senior "Sailor of the Year" for 2010.
