The 72nd Field Artillery Brigade is currently running a membership drive for the 72nd Field Artillery Association, the United States Field Artillery Association Chapter at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. Association membership is open to all JB MDL servicemembers and includes an array of privileges to all members in good standing.

Opportunities offered to USFAA members includes a lifetime subscription to the Artillery Journal, eligibility for chapter grants, a 15 percent discount at Redleg Outpost, both in store and online, granted attendance at USFAA annual functions and eligibility for scholarships for members and their immediate family.

"If you are interested, please join us at the 72nd Field Artillery Brigade FA Association, from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday at Morgan's," said Sgt. 1st Class Bruce Williams, 72nd FA Bde. FA Association secretary. "We'll discuss what's involved - future events, local chapter dues, old and new business."

The USFAA was founded in 1910 by Army Maj. John E. McMahon, and Army Capts. William J. Snow and W.S. McNair to promote the field artillery branch of service and enhance the professionalism and tradition of artillerymen. More than 100 years later, the association stands strong as the only professional organization which services the field artillery branch of the U.S. military. Help continue the Field Artillery "King of Battle" legacy by keeping your membership active and encouraging other Redlegs and Redleg supporters to join and remain active.

The term "Redleg" dates back to the American Civil War. Field artillery members were distinguished by scarlet stripes down the legs of their uniform pants. The nickname has stuck ever since.
