Enterprise Service Desk to support JB MDL in the AFNET

87th Communications Squadron

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is 30 days from beginning its two-month long migration into the enterprise-level Air Force network. One of the major changes with the migration is help desk calls for unclassified computer support will not be handled at the local communications squadron. Instead, calls will be transferred to one of the 24/7 Enterprise Service Desks.

All local communications squadron help desks across the Air Force are transitioning from independently operated and managed entities at the base or major command level, to a single virtualized Air Force information technology ESD. These ESDs are geographically dispersed across four worldwide locations, operating within one logical Air Force network domain.

The responsibility to establish, operate and maintain the ESDs belongs to the 690th Network Support Squadron, the world's largest service desk operation of more than 600 military, civilian and contractor personnel. The ESDs are located at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas; Ramstein Air Base, Germany; Maxwell AFB-Gunter Annex, Ala., and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. Calls will automatically rotate to one of those help desks based on availability.

The 87th Communication Squadron will maintain responsibility for all telephones, BlackBerrys, land mobile radios, aircraft landing systems and classified network trouble calls. Beginning Jan. 10, 2011, users who call the 87th CS Help Desk will have the option to be redirected to one of the ESDs. To reach the ESD directly, call DSN 945-2900.
