Joint base leadership gathered in Halvorsen Hall and Dix dining facilities to serve troops a warm Thanksgiving meal Nov. 25.

The event was organized in observance of the holiday season as a way to show appreciation for the servicemembers and all the work they do throughout the year.

"We wanted to ensure the Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of JB MDL felt comfortable and at home on Thanksgiving," said Maj. Cami Johnson, 87th Force Support Squadron, Sustainment Services flight commander. "So our staff went above and beyond to prepare for this event."

At the Dix dining facility, an ice sculpture with the Army, Navy and Air Force emblems engraved stood tall at the entrance of the dining room and served as a conversation piece as servicembers sat and enjoyed their meals. The food spread ranged from turkey and pig roasts to a chocolate fondue fountain with an assortment of fruits and vegetables.

Retirees, military families and servicemembers were encouraged to join in the festivities.

"Our Thanksgiving meal is an annual event, and we are proud to carry out the tradition in order to show our appreciation of the wonderful work our servicemembers do on a daily basis," said Col. Joe Poth, JB MDL deputy commander.
