The South Jersey Combined Federal Campaign Agency received over $375,000 in donations in 2009 from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst community member's out of $880,000 they received from nine counties.

"This campaign is the servicemembers campaign, because they are responsible for running the program as well as making it succeed," said Valerie B. Scott, South Jersey Combined Federal Campaign manager. "Joint Base community members did just that by donated the most money in the South Jersey area in 2009."

This year's CFC fundraising kicked off Sept. 29 with Col. Gina Grosso, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst commander and 87th Air Base Wing commander, making the first pledge to the $360,000 goal set for this year. Community members can see how their donations are affecting the campaign and can track its progress at Pudgy's Circle, on the board displaying the thermometer.

"The reason this campaign has been so successful in the past is because of leadership setting the example for their younger troops," said Master Sgt. Loretta L. West, Inspector General Superintendent of JB MDL. "It's not only my job or the point of contacts designated within wings job to bring awareness of CFC to the JB MDL community, it's supervisors, Non-Commissioned Officers and all servicemembers that should be doing this."

Community members have a few different ways to pledge your donations to the CFC. They can have monthly payroll deductions transferred to the charitable organization of their choice or they can have CFC decide which organization will receive the money. Cash or check can be donated to specific CFC organizations or left up to the CFC to allocate the money among the 2,500 charities.

"With over 2,500 approved charities in this year's South Jersey CFC Campaign to choose from, community members should find something that speaks to them," said Scott.

A Mid-Term kick off event will be held Nov. 4 from 8 to 8:30 a.m. at the Lakehurst flight deck conference room. Col. Grosso will speak on the importance of donating to the CFC and all the good that can come from giving back to such organizations.
