Network migration will enforce smaller e-mail boxes

Starting in January, personnel at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst will no longer need to carry e-mails, contacts, calendars and files on every temporary duty, deployment or permanent change of station. JB MDL will be the eighth Air Mobility Command base to migrate computer users operating on the AMC Network into the enterprise-level Air Force Network. This migration is known as the Active Directory and Exchange or ADX migration. The change will affect anyone who has an e-mail address ending with "mcguire.af.mil." Over a two-month period beginning Jan. 10, a team from the Air Force Network Integration Center will begin a phased migration of JB MDL computer workstations and user accounts into the AFNET, enabling all AF personnel one e-mail account and address for the entire duration of their career.

Prior to the beginning of JB MDL's migration to the AFNET, all personnel on base with a 'mcguire.af.mil' e-mail address must ensure their e-mail boxes are under the size limits mandated by AMC. These limits apply to both personal and organizational mailboxes. If e-mail box sizes are above these limits at migration, their owners will lose e-mail and internet connectivity, substantially delaying their unit's migration. Standard JB MDL users are considered Category 3 and have a 45 MB limit. Category 2 users have a 245 MB limit and include Wing Staff Agency leads (Judge Advocate, Inspector General, etc.) and their executive organizational boxes. All first sergeants are Category 2 as well. Category 1 users, who have a 975 MB limit, include the following:

· NAF directors and Staff Agency Leads
· Wing commander, vice commander
· Group commander, deputy commander
· Squadron commander
· Executive organizational boxes for the above positions
· All other O-6s and E-9s

Following the ADX migration, support for all Air Force unclassified computers will be handled by one of four enterprise service desks located at Lackland, Gunter, Ramstein and Hickam Air Force Bases. The ease and success of the migration depends on the preparation of its AMC network users. Contact JB MDL's ADX team at scx.feedback@mcguire.af.mil for more information.
