Youth Center programs in the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst area offer many attractions for base youngsters to enjoy themselves during the holiday season.

Special events sponsored by the McGuire Youth Center during the holiday season include a sight-seeing trip to New York City for teens, ages 13 to 18, from noon until 10 p.m. Dec. 12. The annual Christmas dinner at the center is scheduled for Dec. 16 from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.

In a music competition that spans all ages, a rock band tournament jams from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 18. Children, ages 9 to 18, might enjoy making holiday ornaments Dec. 19 from 2 to 5 p.m.

"We have activities that keep the interests of children in mind," said Cecilia Brown, 87th Force Support Squadron teen coordinator. "We try to schedule events that excite youth and allow them to learn something valuable at the same time."

School Age Services at the Dix Annex is also keeping up with the spirit of the season by throwing a Holiday Fun Fest Dec. 10, 5:30 to 7 p.m., with food and games provided.

"The fest is a celebration of family and the holidays," said Joy Lumb, 87th Force Support Squadron education technician. It's a great opportunity for the families and staff to meet each other, she added.

Family members interested in attending the fun fest can contact Maria Posi at (609) 562-3874 for additional information.
