Master Sgt. Terence Jackson of the 32nd Air Refueling Squadron here was recognized recently for achieving a rare milestone in his career: 10,000 mishap-free flight hours.

"I know maybe just a handful of people who have accomplished this," said Lt. Col. David Mott, 305th Air Mobility Wing chief of safety. "They all have one thing in common: They love what they do."

Colonel Mott emphasized that all of those hours - which add up to more than a year and 51 days - were without any safety mishaps.

"That is an accomplishment in itself," the colonel said.

Sergeant Jackson, who is currently deployed with the 908th Expeditionary Aerial Refueling Squadron, reached his 10,000th hour while deployed with the 908th EARS in January.

The KC-10 flight engineer, who began his career working on the C-141 Starlifter,  grinned sheepishly when he realized he's been working on KC-10s for "only about seven years, which seems like a long time when you say it out loud," and downplayed his ability to stay safe. "I just follow the book," he said.

Regardless of the reason for the NCO's perfect safety record, Colonel Mott said Sergeant Jackson sets a good example for all Airmen to follow.

"This is truely an impressive accomplishment and something to be proud of," he said.
