Hindenburg crash
On May 6, 1937, the hydrogen-filled German airship Hindenburg burned and crashed in Lakehurst, N.J., killing 35 of the 97 people on board and a Navy crewman on the ground. The Navy Lakehurst Historical Society and Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst recently observed the 72nd anniversary of the crash of the Hindenburg as a time to remember all losses in lighter-than-air service as well as those lost in the current Iraq and Afghanistan wars in a ceremony beginning at 7:25 p.m., the time and place of the crash on May 6, 1937.
