All military spouses are invited to attend Military Spouse Appreciation Open House at the Airman and Family Readiness Center May 1 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. This year's theme is "Military Spouses Sow Seeds of Inspiration."

Lt. Col. John Clark, 87th Force Support Squadron commander, backs the event whole-heartedly. "Ask any married Airman about the importance of their spouse and you'll get the same response. Military spouses are the glue of the family and the inspiration for their successes. This event is a wonderful way to celebrate their contributions to our community."

The main purpose of this event is to show gratitude for the many contributions military spouses make to our community, said Cynthia Bush, A&FRC Relocation and Family Life community readiness consultant. The military way of life would not be possible without the sacrifice and support of military spouses, she said.

Military Spouse Appreciation Day was first designated in 1984. This day is set aside every year as a time to recognize military spouses for their contributions to the military community.

There is no charge to attend the open house. The first 100 attendees will receive free theme-related gifts.

A variety of displays will be open for browsing. Unique Perspectives Photography will showcase some of their photographs and will also offer a venue for military spouse photographers to sell their own work.

Do you need ideas for an upcoming birthday party? Mad Science, the world's leading science enrichment provider for kids 3-to-12 years old, will be on-site with interactive displays and brochures. They offer fun and educational, hands-on activities for children.

Straight from the Heart Bakery, owned and operated by military spouses Wendy Fuleki and Jennifer Sanders, will provide a professional cake display. Let's Dish will be on hand to showcase their ready-made food products that make feeding a family fast, convenient and nutritious.

Other displays will include the Health and Wellness Center, United Services Organization, Family Advocacy and Andrews Federal Credit Union.
