'One Voice' coordinates Air Force positions on joint and interagency issues Published March 24, 2009 By Lt. Col. Tadd Sholtis Secretary of the Air Force Office of Public Affairs WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- Air Force officials recently announced the establishment of a new Headquarters Air Force capability devoted to providing Air Force leaders with coordinated Air Force positions for use in communicating with non-Air Force entities. This new capability is called "One Voice." "Each day, members of the Headquarters Air Force staff manage hundreds of issues, many that will be represented in joint staff, (office of the secretary of defense) and other forums," said Col. Gary Mausolf, the director of the Air Force One Voice office. "Our goal is to participate in these forums with consistent and coordinated Air Force positions." One Voice was born last summer, when the Air Force deputy chief of staff for operations, plans and requirements, known as AF/A3/5, and the deputy chief of staff for strategic plans and programs, or AF/A8, teamed up with personnel from across the Air Staff for an Air Force Smart Operations 21 rapid improvement event. The RIE aimed at improving the process by which the Air Force action officers prepare leaders for the many forums in which they are required to articulate a service position. RIE participants focused on developing a new Web-based and transparent staffing process for the creation, development and storage of integrated and synchronized Air Force positions on key issues. "The One Voice Web site will not only provide action officers with a Web-based staffing tool, but it will also act as a central repository for Air Force positions," Colonel Mausolf said. "This will serve the Air Force well in the coming years, as it provides all Airmen with a single source location for retrieving the latest Air Force positions and visibility into the decision thought process on key issues." The One Voice office, with a small footprint of three individuals, is virtually connected with many of the headquarters organizations. This allows the One Voice staff to synchronize and integrate processes and information from across the Headquarters Air Force staff. Access to One Voice is limited to Air Force members with a classified network account. "Putting the information on the SIPRNET was necessitated by the fact that many of the issues we deal with are classified, sensitive or pre-decisional," said Colonel Mausolf. For more information, Air Force members can contact the Headquarters Air Force One Voice office at 703-692-1487 or log on to the One Voice Web site to request an account and find the latest information.
