The new Family Fitness Room, located next to the Health and Wellness Center, had its ribbon-cutting ceremony Jan. 21.

Continuing Col. Balan Ayyar's, 305th Air Mobility Wing commander, theme of "The sun is rising on McGuire," the 305th Services Squadron Fitness Center staff was proud to display the new facility.

"Many people asked for this, and we feel a great deal of pride to be able to deliver it!" said Lt. Col. John Clark, 305th SVS commander. "Our goal is to provide our customers with the best facilities, services and programs to keep them happy and healthy."

The new room, just inside the fitness center, provides busy parents a safe and convenient area to work out in while keeping an eye on their children. Expectant mothers are also encouraged to utilize the fitness room.

The room boasts four pieces of cardio equipment, a DVD player with a large flat screen TV, exercise matting, a large window and a sectioned area with padding for children to play while their parents work out. The room can be accessed by checking in at the front issue counter where a fitness center staff member can buzz parents into the room. The entrance will be monitored and controlled by the fitness center staff, ensuring a safe and secure environment.

Small children can safely keep themselves occupied while their parents are only a few feet away. Parents are asked to bring their favorite DVDs and toys for their child to play with in the children's area.

Parents are not permitted to leave children unattended anywhere in the facility, however hourly drop-off care is still available at Child Development Center 2 for $6 an hour. Versa balls, small dumbbells, and children's DVDs can also be checked out at front desk.
