AMC announces best 2008 Public Affairs programs, communicators

Air Mobility Command announced its selections for the 2008 AMC Public Affairs Awards for Communication Excellence today.

The awards recognize the best public affairs communication programs in the command. In addition, public affairs, band and multimedia Airmen compete for top position as the best overall communicator in their respective rank and category.

Winning top honors for the Best Wing Communication Program was the 305th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs office at McGuire Air Force Base, N.J.

McGuire's public affairs staff was recognized in particular for their efforts following support of humanitarian airlift operations to Georgia during hostilities with Russia, and a superb communication display during Air Force Week in Philadelphia. Both efforts resulted in positive media coverage at the national and international levels.

The unit and individual award winners are:

Best Overall Communication Program Award: AMC/PA, Scott AFB, Ill.

Best Wing Communication Program Award: 305th AMW/PA

Best Communication Effectiveness Award: 305th AMW/PA

Best Crisis Communication Award: 60th AMW/PA, Travis AFB, Calif.

Best Issues Management Award: AMC/PA

Best Overall Integrated Communication Award: AMC/PA

Best Wing Integrated Communication Award: 437th AW/PA, Charleston AFB, S.C.

Best Innovative Program Award: 60th AMW/PA

Outstanding Field Grade Officer: Maj. Heather J. Brennan, AMC/PA

Outstanding Company Grade Officer: 1st Lt. Nicole S. Langley, 615th Contingency Response Wing Public Affairs, Travis AFB

Overall Outstanding Intermediate Grade Civilian: Trisha A. Gallaway, 437th AW/PA

MAJCOM Outstanding Intermediate Grade Civilian: Roger A. Drinnon, AMC/PA

Overall Outstanding Senior NCO and Outstanding Senior NCO for Public Affairs: Master Sgt. Paul A. Kilgallon, 437th AW/PA

Outstanding Senior NCO for the Bands: Master Sgt. Richard H. Thorp, U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America, Scott AFB
