McGuire's annual tree lighting ceremony will be held Dec. 5, 4 p.m., at Chapel 1. All are welcome to attend, especially children since the chapel will have a very special visitor.

"This year's holiday tree lighting is going to be the best one on record! I encourage everyone to come enjoy this time as we gather together to celebrate the holiday season!" said Chaplain (Capt.) John Boyer, 305th Air Mobility Wing chapel. "This will be an extremely kid-friendly event, especially since there will be so many exciting things for the kids to see and do."

Following the tree lighting, which will be done by a deployed family, Santa will be arriving in a Blackhawk helicopter next to the chapel (weather permitting), Chaplain Boyer said.

Col. Balan Ayyar, 305th Air Mobility Wing commander, will share his thoughts about the upcoming holiday season and a 50-member choir from the Northern Burlington Middle School will perform. Afterward, the squadron holiday card winners will be announced. Each squadron winner will receive an award from the 305th Services Squadron.

Inside the chapel, Santa will take photos with children and hot chocolate and cookies will be served to all guests. "Santa has gifts and candy for the children who visit him, too!" the chaplain said.

"This event is a great start to preparing for the Christmas season," said Chaplain (Capt.) Mike Curtis, 305th AMW chapel. "It's a great chance to celebrate with family, co-workers and friends - enjoy quality time together, visit with Santa and feel the holiday spirit."

Chaplain Boyer added that this event is for the young and young at heart. "Songs, candy, toys, Santa - what's not to love? My own kids can't wait! So, don't be a Grinch -- come on out!"
