It's that time of year again; the air is turning cold, small snowflakes are starting to fall and children are getting antsy about time off from school ... the holiday season is here. For most people, this is a time for relaxation, memories with loved ones and most of all, enjoying good food. This time doesn't usually include exercise.

The 305th Services Squadron's 12 Days of Fitness, which begins Dec. 1, is meant to help with that. The self-paced program introduces participants to the many programs and equipment the fitness center offers, helping them avoid getting into an exercise (or lack thereof) rut - especially near the holidays.

"This annual fitness center event always falls on a time when most of us would prefer to let ourselves go," said Monty Dunn, 305th SVS marketing director. "The events are fun and purposeful, and the incentives are great. It's a good way to maintain a fitness regimen through a difficult time of year."

The fitness center staff encourages everyone, including Airmen, family members and civilian employees, to get involved with the 12 Days of Fitness.

"Participants in the program can learn about all of the available programs at the fitness center and the Health and Wellness Center in just 12 days," said Senior Airman Monroe James III, 305th SVS fitness and sports specialist. "The program can also help people who plateau during exercise since the different exercises will mix up their normal routine.
"Each day, participants will be able to choose from strength training, cardio equipment or an aerobics or HAWC class. Many people tend to stick to the same routine or are afraid to try new things; at the end of the program, participants will have tried all of the equipment and programs offered at the gym," Airman James said. "Twelve Days of Fitness can even work for beginner exercisers - it can help you develop a program to achieve your exercise goals."

Participants are also encouraged to utilize the fitness center and HAWC staff members - they are there to assist members with all of their fitness and wellness needs, Airman James said.

Twelve Days of Fitness runs through Dec. 12. To sign up, stop by the front desk at the fitness center. For more information, call (609) 754-6085.
