Registration is currently underway for the McGuire Mud Run scheduled for Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. Registration will continue until Oct. 25.

All base personnel and local community members are encouraged to participate.

"The mud run is a 10K military-style obstacle course hosted at McGuire," said Bernadette Kooi, mud run coordinator. "All levels of runners are encouraged to participate, and it's meant to be a fun run, so runners are allowed to help others through the obstacles."

The course, which is currently under construction, will feature different types of terrain, including asphalt, dirt, hills, water hazards, and of course, mud. There will be mud pits, rope-climb walls, belly crawls, a tire course, wall climbing and more.

Teams are preferred for the event and must start and finish the run together. It is recommended to wear old clothes and sneakers and to bring a trash bag, clean clothes, and a towel. Military-style cleaning facilities will be available after the run.

Military teams will race to win the Commander's Cup and awards will be given for age groups, best overall male and female and best costume.

"I encourage everyone to participate because this race offers something different than any other race in the area," Ms. Kooi said. "It will allow civilians and the military to come together in a fun way. Plus, most people have never been to McGuire and this will give them a chance to see the base!"

Proceeds from the McGuire Mud Run will benefit the Burlington County Military Affairs Committee, which provides support to active-duty personnel and their families. Below are prices for the run according to category:

Civilian individual: $30

Civilian five-person team: $125 ($25/person, one entry form/person)

Military family members: $15

Military family five-person team: $75 ($15/person, one entry form/person)

Military personnel participation by team only
