NSPS appraisal cycle coming to close Published Oct. 1, 2008 By Bethy Stouck 305th Mission Support Squadron McGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. -- The 2007-2008 National Security Personnel System appraisal cycle is quickly coming to a close. The following timeline of events has been established to ensure Team McGuire personnel meet all of the milestones established under NSPS: Oct. 1: Request optional annual self assessment of duty performance for appraisal year Oct. 1, 2007 - Sept. 30, 2008. Oct. 6: Self assessments due to NSPS raters/supervisors. Note: NSPS employees can begin drafting their self assessments in Microsoft Word now. Oct. 6: Conduct optional end of cycle review. Oct. 6: Prepare rater assessment and recommended ratings in Performance Appraisal Application. Oct. 20: Forward the PAA appraisal to higher-level reviewer for approval. Oct. 30: NSPS appraisals for the appraisal year Oct. 1, 2007 - Sept. 30, 2008, are due to the 305th Air Mobility Wing Pay Pool manager no later than Oct. 30 - submitted through the PAA. Nov. 12-20: Pay Pool Panel meeting No later than Nov. 26: Pay Pool manager approves ratings, shares and share distributions, and notifies supervisors. Jan. 2: Supervisors notify employees of final ratings, shares and share distributions. Jan. 23: Employee performance payout date. According to DoD Issuances, between Oct. 1-30, 2008, all raters of NSPS employee should start and finalize 2009 objectives for the new appraisal year. To facilitate this process a new version of the PAA, version 3.0 is available for use in preparing the new plan. Version 2.0 and 3.0 will be available simultaneously for a period of time because version 2.0 is to be used to complete this years' annual appraisals (Oct. 1, 2007 - Sept. 30, 2008), and version 3.0 is to be used to generate performance plans for next year (Oct. 1, 2008 - Sept. 30, 2009). When logging on to the PAA in myBiz or myWorkplace, users will be prompted to choose the appropriate PAA version depending on the action to be taken. Highlighted improvements noted with Version 3.0 are: -Version 3.0 has significantly improved functionality, including a Track Progress Screen and ability to copy performance plans from one year to another or from one employee to another. -Rating officials and higher-level reviewers will have capability to change raters themselves; however, note that this will not link to the NSPS hierarchy. Organizations will still need to call manpower to update the hierarchy. -Additionally, there will be no separate Version 3.0 user's guide published because, like Version 2.0, a help menu is embedded in PAA Version 3.0, making Version 3.0 more user friendly.
