Air Force officials announce staff sergeant selections Published Aug. 13, 2008 RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFPN) -- Air Force officials selected 12,209 of 28,098 eligible senior airmen for promotion to staff sergeant for a selection rate of 43.45 percent. The average score for those selected was 268.39, with an average time in grade and time in service of 2.25 and 4.85 years respectively. The average score was based on the following point averages: 131.62 for enlisted performance reports, 54.10 for the promotion fitness exam, 53.69 for the specialty knowledge test, 19.31 for time in grade, 11.80 for time in service and 0.96 for decorations. The staff sergeant promotion list will be released publicly Aug. 20 at 8 a.m. Central Daylight Time on the Air Force Personnel Center's public Web site and on AFPC's "Ask" site at Spotlight and Enlisted Promotions. "By leveraging technology, we're providing our Airmen multiple access points to view the list," said Chief Master Sgt. Michael Hall, the enlisted promotions and military testing branch chief. "We want to encourage people to access the promotion list through the public sites first to avoid any technological delays." During the virtual release of the technical and master sergeant promotions on June 26, more than 70,000 users attempted to access the list on the Air Force Portal and AFPC Secure during the first minute of the release. This large number caused some people to experience delays and slow response times. "Our goal is to provide timely worldwide access to all Airmen and their families," Chief Hall said. "So, on the morning of the 20th, we want people to be aware that they can go to any of the three public venues to see if they are a selectee." At 1 p.m. CDT Aug. 20, Airmen can access their score notices on the virtual MPF and the AF Portal. Those selected for staff sergeant will be promoted according to their promotion sequence number beginning in September. As a reminder, the selections are tentative until the data verification process is complete, which is no later than 10 days after the promotion release date. AFPC officials will notify Airmen, via military personnel flights and military personnel elements, if their selection is in question. The virtual promotion release is one of the many technological initiatives AFPC has taken to deliver personnel services via 24/7 Web-based personnel information.
