Air Force officials reach recruitment program goal Published Aug. 1, 2008 WASHINGTON (AFPN) -- Air Force officials have reached the 2008 goal of hiring 25 people via the Workforce Recruitment Program for summer or permanent jobs. Coordinated by officials in the Office of Disability Employment Policy, the Department of Labor and the Department of Defense, the program is a recruitment and referral system that connects federal employers nationwide with postsecondary students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to prove themselves in the workplace. It has provided employment opportunities for more than 4,000 students since 1995. The Air Force's Workforce Recruitment Program efforts were recharged by Jim Carlock of the Air Force Equal Opportunity Office at the Pentagon and Liz Stowers, affirmative employment manager at Bolling Air Force Base, D.C., through improved communication with affirmative employment offices across the Air Force. The Air Force's participation in the program had declined in recent years, Mr. Carlock said. As a result, he and Ms. Stowers pursued a new action plan with a goal of reaching 25 WRP students this year, eight more than in 2007. Officials at each installation involved in the Workforce Recruitment Program deserve acknowledgment for their participation, said Mr. Carlock. He said Hill AFB, Utah, leaders will be recognized for hiring the most students, with 11. "We hope to surpass the standard set this year by having installations consider creating more opportunities for students with disabilities," he said. "Accomplishing this task will take the teamwork of the entire Air Force. Building on this year's success, there is no doubt (we) will attract and hire more students in 2009."
