Air Force, industry leaders to discuss the future of energy

Air Force and industry leaders will discuss energy initiatives and the "greening" of McGuire Air Force Base at the Air Force Sustainable Energy Conference June 2 at the Rutgers University Cook Campus Center in New Brunswick, N.J.

The forum, which is part of the Air Force Week in Philadelphia celebration, will feature keynote speaker Honorable William C. Anderson, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, Installation, Environment and Logistics, as well as speakers from McGuire AFB and other Air Force subject-matter experts, Rutgers University, the General Electric Solar Technologies Division and others.

The purpose of the conference is to serve as a forum for the exchange of information, ideas and technologies for energy conservation that are applicable to private and public sector operations and facilities alike, according to the course brochure.

Officials from McGuire, which was designated a model energy base by the Secretary of the Air Force in March 2007, will discuss various initiatives that have been taken or are currently being planned to reduce the base's energy consumption by 50 percent by 2012 and become energy sustainable by 2015. Officials will also various renewable energy technologies, including nuclear, biomass, solar and geothermal heat pumps.

The conference is open to military and civic leaders as well as industry workers, local academia and the press, all of whom are encouraged to participate.
