Life happens. The Air Force Aid Society understands that.

AFAS Falcon Loans are now available to active-duty Air Force members and their families for emergency needs, such as basic living expenses (rent, utilities and food), car repairs, emergency travel or other approved needs.

The AFAS Falcon Loan Program is available through the McGuire Airman and Family Readiness Center. The program provides a streamlined process for Air Force personnel to receive an interest-free loan of $500 or less, repayable within 10 months.

"The AFAS Falcon Loan is designed to meet short-term financial needs of active-duty Airmen who might otherwise have to resort to a high-interest lender," said Betsy Conzo, AFRC community readiness consultant. "The loan should be used for things like rent/mortgage, food, vehicle expenses, and medical or dental expenses."

According to the Air Force Aid Society Web site, all active-duty Air Force personnel, to include Air Force Reserve/Air National Guard personnel activated under Title 10 U.S.C. orders, who have no outstanding loan balance with AFAS, are eligible. Spouses who have a Power of Attorney are also eligible to apply for the loan if the servicemember is not in the area.

The loan requires no budget information, backup documentation, or first sergeant or commander approval. Minimal information to process an allotment or paymatic transaction and a signature are the only requirements to complete the application.

Applying for the AFAS Falcon Loan is as easy as 1-2-3.

1. Download the application off of the AFAS Web site at www.afas.org.

2. Applicants will need their Air Force ID card and current Leave and Earnings statement.

3. Provide title 10 U.S.C. orders and a void check (Reserve and Guard personnel only).

4. Go to the McGuire AFRC.
