McGuire and Fort Dix members gathered to officially close the 2007 Combined Federal Campaign with a ceremony here Dec. 13.

Col. Balan Ayyar, 305th Air Mobility Wing commander, and Col. Ronald Thaxton, Fort Dix installation commander, announced the successes of the bases.

As a whole, Team McGuire contributed $175,111 to the CFC, and Fort Dix contributed $45,800 - exceeding both bases' original goals.

"I am very pleased with McGuire's participation in the CFC," Colonel Ayyar said. "Giving is a part of who we are as Airmen, and the CFC is a great expression of that."

Also in attendance as the guest speaker was Dan Templar, scout executive of the Burlington County Council, Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Templar shared the "Scout Oath" and explained how significant it is to contribute to the CFC.

"On my honor, I will do my best to God and my country to help other people at all times, to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight," he said.

Mr. Templar said the CFC contributions help support the boy scouts by sending them to camp and helping them continue to reach out to others across Burlington County, N.J. He said at times, it's very difficult to help develop young people, but by supporting the CFC, McGuire and Fort Dix are helping accomplish that mission.

"I'm here on behalf of the four million scouts around the world, and the more than two million volunteers, and I want to thank you not only for your support in the CFC, but for what you do for our country."

The CFC was established in 1961 and is the largest workplace charity campaign in the country. This annual fall fundraising drive allows nearly four million federal employees and military members to contribute to thousands of local and national non-profit organizations.

McGuire and Fort Dix exceeded their contribution goals and reached 100 percent contact with personnel.

"Overall, we were extremely successful," said Maj. Mike Brazelton, 305 AMW CFC representative. "I want to thank everyone who helped organize the CFC campaign and fundraisers; without all of them, the campaign would not have been as successful. McGuire's contribution this year was the most we've raised in the last five years."
