Trick or Treat hours set for base housing Published Oct. 18, 2007 By Senior Airman Danielle Johnson 305th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs MCGUIRE AFB, N.J. -- There are just two weeks until little voices around the country will recite the same three words - "trick or treat!" For McGuire and Fort Dix base housing residents, trick or treat hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 31. During this time, Pumpkin Patrol volunteers will monitor the housing areas to help ensure little ghosts, superheroes and princesses are safe. Passenger Terminal personnel will also X-ray candy during that time if any parents want to bring their children and candy over to the passenger terminal. In preparation for this favorite - and, to some, controversial - holiday, many parents are rushing out to buy costumes, candy and decorations. But when buying festive accessories for costumes, don't forget to include safety items such as flash lights, glow sticks, strobes and reflective clothing or candy bags. Though military housing areas are secure, and free from many of the dangers posed in other neighborhoods, it is important to remember that accidents/incidents can still happen. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children - of all ages - while trick-or-treating. Ensure children walk on sidewalks and use caution while crossing streets and parking areas. Ensure children wear bright or reflective clothing. If the child's costume is dark, adding some reflective tape, a strobe or flashing light, or glow stick can be attached to either the costume or the child's candy bag. Children can also be given flashlights to carry. While out Halloween night, any mischievous behavior by older children or even adults should be reported to Pumpkin Patrol volunteers or Security Forces personnel immediately. Emergencies should be reported by calling 911.
