McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Joint Base Race success

MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. -- More than 280 participants came out to the McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Joint Base Race here Sept. 29.

The 13.1 mile route was on paved surfaces within McGuire and Fort Dix's cantonment area. There was a three-hour time limit to finish.

Military and civilian runners and their families competed, along with the men's and women's marathon teams from the Air Force Academy, Naval Academy and West Point.

"For an inaugural event, it far exceeded our expectations," said Monty Dunn, 305th Services Squadron marketing director. "Everyone at McGuire, Fort Dix and Lakehurst did a great job."

There were first, second and third place winners for males and females in different age groups: 29 and below; 30-39; 40-49; and 50 and over. All placing participants received trophies.

There was also a 5K Fun Run/Walk, which was 3.1 miles around the base. Winners were recognized in the same age categories, and they all received certificates.

Children who participated in the Kids Run, one-mile around the McGuire Fitness Center track, received a Fun Medal.

After the race, food and entertainment was provided for all of the participants and spectators.

"This was a great first time out, and we had a great turn out," Mr. Dunn said. "We hope to do it again next year."
