Airman's Roll Call - Air Force leaders meet, discuss future Published Sept. 28, 2007 AFNEWS -- Since its early days as the Army Air Corps, expeditionary Airmen have embodied the Air Force Core Values in their efforts to protect the nation, its interests and allies. This week, Air Force leaders are meeting to discuss the future of the service at the Air Force Association's Air & Space Conference and Technology Exposition in the nation's capital. One of the highlights of the AFA convention is celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Air Force and several achievements the service has made in its three warfighting domains - air, space and cyberspace. Among the items discussed: - The Air Force has been continuously at war for 17 years. From the first Gulf War to Bosnia to Northern and Southern Watch to the global war on terror, the Air Force has been fully engaged in combat operations - American airpower matters in the fight. The last time an American service member had to worry about being attacked from an enemy aircraft was in April 1953 - The world depends on the United States to provide global airpower and will do just that with fifth generation fighters like the F-22A Raptor and F-35 Lightning II - The Air Force has several new space launches planned that will increase our intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities. The new global positioning system satellite constellation will provide even more accurate combat support for Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen around the world - The newest Air Force major command became official last week.
