Eagles demonstrate commitment to the troops Published Aug. 9, 2007 By Captain Tony Duggan McGuire Public Affairs MCGUIRE AFB, N.J. -- Servicemembers from McGuire AFB, Fort Dix, Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst, and other area installations attended the Philadelphia Eagles' Training Camp at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., Tuesday for a day of fun in the sun. More than 400 military members started their visit with a continental breakfast and a welcome from Eagles play-by-play commentator, Merrill Reese. "Thank you for coming out today, and thank you sincerely, for everything you all do," said Reese. He held a no-holds bar question-and-answer session with the troops, and concluded with, "Enjoy your day at the Eagles' Training Camp." After watching the Eagles practice, the servicemembers stepped onto the field and received a standing ovation from the stadium-filled fans who chanted "U.S.A." repeatedly. The troops surrounded the perimeter of the field as the Eagles completed their last plays...and quickly converged in a dash to join the Eagles in their last huddle. Consequently, they were released to sign autographs, take pictures and meet with the players. Each autograph and picture was complimented with words of greatest appreciation by the players. From pictures to shirts and footballs, the Eagles handled all such requests with enthusiasm--"as a special thank you for all that the troops do," said Donovan McNabb, Eagles star quarterback.
