On June 22, United Communities LLC, the company responsible for the redevelopment of the family residential communities at Fort Dix and McGuire, held a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the first phase of renovation of the historic houses at Scott Plaza at Fort Dix.

During his remarks, Richard Haydinger, United Communities president, praised the members of the military for the work they do every day, saying "he hoped that his team could be held to as high a standard. Military families make sacrifices every day, whether they're overseas or home. They are entitled to new, modern housing and we are pleased to be a partner in making that happen."

United Communities began work to build, upgrade and rehabilitate housing units at Fort Dix and McGuire in May 2007. The total project is scheduled to be completed in 2012. After that time, the private company will continue to manage and reinvest in the community for a total of 50 years under a ground lease with the Air Force.

The total project includes a combination of new construction and renovations to existing homes. United Communities will construct 1,635 new homes over the next five years, replacing older homes that are no longer viable for repair and renovation because they are obsolete by today's standards. Minor renovations will be completed on 435 homes, and 14 units that are of historical significance will be totally renovated.
