Gate dedication honors fallen servicemembers

FORT DIX, N.J --  Soldiers and Airmen gathered at Fort Dix May 4 to honor two servicemen who died while deployed to Iraq. 

The two men honored were Army Staff Sgt. James D. McNaughton and Air Force Special Agent Daniel J. Kuhlmeier. 

Plaques and portraits of the two were placed on the outside of the newly-constructed Commercial Vehicle Gate off Saylor's Pond Road in commemoration. 

Family members and friends of Sergeant McNaughton and Special Agent Kuhlmeier were also in attendance. 

"This ceremony shows that (the military) doesn't forget about those who have given their lives for our freedom," said William McNaughton, James' father. 

Staff Sgt. James McNaughton was killed in August 2005 while training Iraqi police officers. He mobilized twice at Fort Dix in support of the Global War on Terrorism. 

Air Force Special Agent Daniel Kuhlmeier was killed by a roadside bomb in February 2006 while on convoy duty in Iraq. 

Approximately 250 trucks, filled with loads ranging from fresh produce to ammunition, pass through the Commercial Vehicle Gate each day.
