Air Force Assistance Fund

RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFNEWS) --  This year's Air Force Assistance Fund "Commitment to Caring" campaign, from Feb. 26 to April 8 at McGuire, will provide Airmen the opportunity to contribute to any of the four official Air Force charitable organizations. 

Now in its 34th year, 100 percent of designated AFAF contributions will benefit active-duty, Reserve, Guard, retired Air Force people, surviving spouses and families. Last year, Airmen exceeded the campaign goal as they contributed more than $7.33 million.

"Our goal this year is 100% contact, to ensure those who wish to give are provided the opportunity to share their generosity with our Air Force family," said Capt. Paul Sortor, McGuire AFAF point of contact. "This year the Air Force Personnel Center calculated our monetary goal at $80,175 which is only half of one percent of the base pay for each military member on McGuire." 

People can contribute cash, check or money order or use payroll deduction for the following charities: 

- The Air Force Aid Society
- The Air Force Enlisted Village Indigent Widows' Fund
- The Air Force Villages Indigent Widows' Fund
- The General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation 

In future editions of Airtides, more information on each charity will be provided. This week' charity is the Air Force Aid Society. 

The AFAS provides Airmen and their families with worldwide emergency financial assistance, education assistance and an array of base level community-enhancement programs. Base staff members at airman and family readiness centers have full details on programs and eligibility requirements. Information also is available online at www.afas.org. 

"Last year, the Family Support Center channeled more than $207,000 in AFAS funds to members right here on McGuire," said Captain Sortor. "This is of great contrast compared to the $56,000 in donations collected last year on McGuire for AFAS specifically."
