The 305th Communications Squadron recently received good news with the capture of two Air Mobility Command Communications and Information awards: the 305 CS Information Assurance Element was named Outstanding Information Element of the Year and Michael Karle was named Outstanding Civilian Specialist of the Year.

"Our IA team is simply awesome, and they do an outstanding job every day protecting the base network from security threats and managing the Wing's Information Assurance program," said Lt. Col. Aaron Smith, 305th CS Commander. "It is no surprise they were recognized as the 'best' in AMC, and the entire squadron is proud of our IA professionals."

According to the award package, the IA Team quickly identified and isolated malicious code on a mission-critical wing file server, preventing the loss of more than 2,000 privacy act files. In addition, the flight was lauded for resolving 870 time compliance network orders, surpassing all AMC suspenses and patching more than 30,000 insecurities.

"Our Information Assurance professionals have a huge responsibility to keep McGuire's network safe," said Capt. Kevin Scott, 305th CS Information Systems Flight Commander.

"The large majority of their work takes place behind the scenes, so it's nice to have the team's efforts publicly recognized. They truly deserve this award."

Mr. Karle won his award for his performance as a 305th CS Telecommunications Specialist. According to his award package, he provided support to more than 6,000 base customers, managed more than 500 C2 requirements and $68 million in C41 projects.

In addition, Mr. Karle led a $4.2 million installation of a new radar unit and ensured successful transition from the old radar system to the new one. His efforts will help save 486 man hours a year, and have improved reliability by 50 percent.

"Mr. Karle is an absolute superstar, and is highly deserving of this award," Colonel Smith said. "He has been the lead project manager for McGuire's most important C4 projects, and it is very gratifying to see him receive recognition for his leadership, hard work and dedication. We all are very proud of him."
