McGuire 2007 Air Expo, Open House ramps up Published March 2, 2007 By Christine Sullivan McGuire Public Affairs MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. -- If you haven't already made plans for May 12 and 13, be sure to mark your calendar for Team McGuire's Air Expo and Open House, an event not to be missed. The volunteer project officer and executive director for this year's spectacular and much-anticipated event is Maj. James Greathouse, 2nd Air Refueling Squadron assistant director of operations. Although his daily duties keep him busy, when he volunteered to serve as executive director for this year's Air Expo, he saw it as a challenge and plunged right in. "I had a pretty good idea of the task at hand after talking with past project officers, but you don't really know until you get going," said Major Greathouse. "I've been doing a lot of learning over the past couple of months." Major Greathouse is responsible for coordination between all base agencies, military and civilian performers and displays and local community members to present a world-class demonstration of what the U.S. military is all about. Major Greathouse's squadron commander said he is very confident Major Greathouse will do a great job. "When the wing commander put the word out they were looking for someone that could handle such a highly-visible job such as the open house's executive director, I knew no one was more capable or better qualified than Major Greathouse," said Lt. Col. Kevin Lamberth, 2nd ARS commander. "He's the type of guy that when I task him with something, he salutes and gets it done -- period. He's already proving that he was the perfect choice as the director." "We will present a cross section of the U.S. military's capabilities with an emphasis on the Air Force and Team McGuire," said Major Greathouse. "Headlining the show will be the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team and the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute demonstration team. Other performers are being solidified but will include flying demonstrations that are a sampling of the other services as well as a few civilian performers." Aircraft static displays will include various airframes aimed at focusing on a cross section of the U.S. Air Force as well as a generous cross-section of historic U.S. military aircraft. People interested in volunteering for the open house celebration, should contact their unit supervisors as soon as possible.
