Different inspections, same deficiencies Published Feb. 2, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Tyler Koehn 305 CES/CEF MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE, N.J. -- All facilities on McGuire are inspected at least annually by the fire protection flight. During the past year, some of the most common deficiencies were: ceiling tiles missing; overloaded outlets; inoperable exit lights; unauthorized cooking; extension cords in use; and coffee/candle warmers in use.Per MAFBI 32-2001 (October 2005), the only authorized cooking devices for use around the work area are toasters, coffee makers and microwaves. Coffee pots will be placed on noncombustible surfaces and disconnected from wall outlets when no longer in use. Never leave any cooking device unattended.Fire extinguishers should be inspected every 30 days and serviced annually. Annual extinguisher training is mandatory for all personnel. Another problem inspectors face is tracking down facility managers. Ensure that if you are a facility manager, you have notified 305th Civil Engineer Squadron customer care at (609) 754-2388 and attend the facility managers training. Deficiencies found will be annotated on Air Force Form 1487. The facility manager will then have approximately three weeks to have the deficiencies corrected, signed off by their commander and returned to the fire prevention office. This is only a short list of high-hit deficiencies; there are numerous other codes, rules and instructions. If fire prevention-related training is needed, call the fire prevention office at (609) 754-4656, 3326.
